What could a little more space make possible?

Sometimes the space you need isn’t inside your home. A custom shop or coach house can create room for work, hobbies, guests, family or additional living space, while making better use of the property you already have. At Doméo Construction, we thoughtfully plan and build spaces that feel purposeful, considered and naturally connected to your home and the way you live.

Made for More

Whether you’re building a shop for work and hobbies or a coach house for family, guests or additional living space, the right building starts with understanding how you want to use it. We consider your property, your needs and the relationship between existing and new spaces to create something that feels like it has always belonged.

  • We begin with your ideas. We’ll talk about how you envision using the space, your property, priorities, budget and timeline. Whether you already know exactly what you need or are still exploring what might be possible, we’ll help you understand the considerations involved and where to begin.

  • Every property presents different opportunities. We consider placement, access, utilities, site conditions and how the new building will relate to your existing home and surroundings. From plans and permits to materials and scheduling, we coordinate the details needed to prepare your shop or coach house for construction.

  • Once construction begins, we coordinate trusted trades, materials and schedules while overseeing the project from the ground up. The same attention to craftsmanship that goes into our custom homes goes into every shop and coach house we build, including the details you see and those you don’t.

  • A workshop, a place to pursue a hobby, room for family or a completely independent living space. Whatever its purpose, the finished building should work beautifully for the way you intend to use it. We complete the final details with care, leaving you with a space that adds function, flexibility and lasting value to your property.

SHOPS + COACH HOUSES FAQ’S

  • A coach house is typically a detached accessory building that includes living space, while a shop is generally designed around storage, work, hobbies or equipment. Both can be customized around your property and needs, subject to local zoning and building requirements.

  • Whether a coach house can be built on your property depends on factors such as your municipality, zoning, lot size, setbacks, servicing and the proposed use of the building. Doméo Construction can help you understand the construction considerations involved and determine the next steps for your property.

  • Yes. Doméo builds custom shops throughout Chilliwack and the Fraser Valley. Shops can be designed around a wide range of uses, including equipment and vehicle storage, workshops, hobbies, home-based work or simply creating more functional space on your property.

  • Depending on local zoning and building requirements, it may be possible to incorporate living space into an accessory building. The intended use should be considered early so the structure, servicing, layout and permitting requirements can be properly planned.

  • Coach houses can be an excellent way to create separate living space for family members or guests while keeping them close to the main home. What is permitted will depend on the zoning and regulations that apply to your particular property.

  • Rental permissions vary by municipality, zoning and property. If rental income is part of your plan for a coach house, it is important to confirm that the proposed use is permitted before moving forward with design and construction.

  • Costs vary depending on the building size, site conditions, servicing requirements, design, materials and level of finish. A finished coach house with a kitchen and living spaces will have very different requirements from a simple detached shop. The best place to start is a conversation about your property and what you want to build.

  • In most cases, a new shop or coach house will require permits and must comply with applicable zoning and building requirements. The exact approvals depend on the property, municipality, building size and intended use.
